Ny Ålesund

Ny Ålesund DSCF8069 ... and, of course,  there was lots of ice.

In fact there was a lot more ice floating around in 2013 than there was during our 2010 visit.

Lots of photos online with this one,  full report to follow.

Svalbard DSCF7421 The geology of Svalbard.

I've posted lots of photographs of the area around Longyearbyen on Flickr.

(we've currently got a weather forecast of thunder storms in Scotland so I'm not going to spend long on the computer.   Think of this as a taster of the full report that will be posted later)

Approaching Honningsvåg

Approaching HonningsvågWe woke up late for Marco Polo's approach to Honningsvåg.

It was too late to get a good view of Hurtigruten's Finnmarken but the ship was still instantly recognisable because of her unique build as she quickly became a small white dot in the distance.

Breakfast first-  then more photos.

Dragon fly

Dragon fly
We had several dragon flies at the side of the loch today.

Unfortunately they didn't want to stay still for long but I was lucky to get a few photographs from a distance.

Scenery on approach to Tromsø

Scenery on approach to Tromsø 1/2 The scenery as we sailed past Skavberg, was beautiful on this sunny morning and I won't even try to use words to describe it.

Hills near Berg

Hills near Berg We woke the next morning to find we were beginning our approach to Tromsø,  near to Berg Kommune.

the pilot joined us near Brensholmen as we continued to sail nearer to our destination.

Marco Polo arriving Molde

Marco Polo arriving Moldeour morning call on day 3.

All our previous visits to Molde have been during the winter so we were really looking forward to exploring.

But first to get the reflection photograph-  Marco Polo seen in the Rica Seilet Hotel

The usual cold ice and snow has been replaced by green and flowers...  it must be spring (or even summer ?)

Leith dragon boats

Leith dragon boats
charity races at Ocean Terminal.

A good sunny day for the teams raising money as they rowed across Leith docks.

(we were waiting to sail from Leith the following day, hence the delay in posting the photographs)

Svalbard 2013

Our Svalbard cruise sailed !

We joined our old friend 'MS Marco Polo' for a cruise to Svalbard from Leith.   It's such a pleasure to sail from Leith-  only 5 hours from disembarkation to sitting in the garden eating the fresh veg that grew while we were away.

More later-   after the laptop is unpacked and the blog posts uploaded.   (we'll perhaps a few days later?)
