Shoreline ice

Shoreline ice
During the last spell of very cold weather and snow I remarked on the loch being relatively free of ice and put this down to the absence of fresh water flowing into the sea loch.

Today most of the head of the loch was covered in a very thin layer of ice. The shoreline had a creaking layer of ice between high and low tide levels.

The temperatures over the last few days have been varying between freezing and just high enough for the snow and ice to thaw. This meant the rivers have carried the thawed fresh water down into the loch and so we now have a superficial coating of ice.
